Available DogsIf you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please read about NEARR's Dogs and the placement process. NEARR specializes in matchmaking. We know our dogs very well through speaking with the previous owner or shelter, doing a careful evaluation, and evaluating the dogs further while they are in foster care. We then get to know our applicants through a thorough questionnaire, interviews, home screenings, and reference checks. We have never accepted applications for a specific dog. Instead, we've always matched applicants up with the appropriate dog based on our knowledge and experience. Special Needs DogThe following dog in NEARR's program demands a special home. Please think about opening up your heart and home to a special NEARR dog today! If you'd like to consider adopting this special dog, please email us at nearr@nearr.com for more information. Maggie
Age: 4 months Maggie is a sweetheart! She has settled in quite nicely in her foster home and enjoys playing with the foster children and the other dogs in the home. She loves car rides, walks, and rolling around in the dirt! She enjoys cuddling, sits nicely while waiting for her meals and hasn't had an accident in quite a few days. She's getting lots of people and doggie socialization. She is a great pup without the typical bad puppy behavior. Besides mastering the sit command, she's learning down, paw, and come - she's a smart girl! Everyone who meets her just loves her! Maggie is a special needs pup who was returned to the breeder as she has been diagnosed with TVD (tricuspid valve dysplasia). Currently, she shows no signs of it bothering her. Please contact NEARR for more information about her condition. Logan
Age: 3 years Meet Logan, NEARR's newest boy. Logan is a sweet little guy who loves other dogs- he lived with other dogs in his previous home and has two canine foster siblings with whom he gets along great. He loves to play with his foster siblings in the fenced yard, but he's also happy to snuggle on the couch watching baseball with his foster dad. Logan is a timid dog, so he should go to an adoptive home willing to work on building his confidence. His foster mom is working on that, as well as working on obedience commands with him and reports he's doing fine with sit, down and walk. Stay tuned for more info as Logan's foster mom gets to know him better. Maisy
Age: 6 years Maisy came to NEARR as Denny, a yellow labrador retriever in need of a fresh start with a loving family. After sharing our home and our hearts with Denny, we chose Maisy as her new name, because in Scottish, Maisy means "child of light", and she is all that and then some! Maisy is the quintessential lab - a sweet girl who is full of love and curiosity for people and animals, and a desire to explore and take in her surroundings. She is happily adjusting to regular exercise and does a 'happy dance' when we get her leash and collar for walks. She is taking well to her new food regimen to get her weight down, and she is enjoying free reign of our home and naps on her dog bed. Maisy's energy and spunk will surely get her to a healthier weight. Maisy gets along very well with her canine foster-sister, though she is more focused on her caregivers and less interested in play/toys. Commands like sit and stay, and recognizing her name when called, are new for Maisy, but she seems to pick up other cues very well. For example, she does not sit on command yet, but if we hold a treat out and wait, she will sit down before she receives it. Maisy will do best with a person or family who is looking for a companion to enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer at home and outdoors. She will also do best with a person or family who will continue training her on basic commands like sit, down, stay and come. However, her disposition and manners are so good that you could almost forget that she is new to commands! Once Maisy has a week of leash walking and a few rounds of training on commands under her belt, we will venture to the dog park to enjoy some playtime with the neighborhood pack. This will give us a better sense of how she responds off-leash and work on commands/name recognition. Bosco
Age: 5-6 years Bosco is a 5-6 year old male chocolate retriever in need of a very special home. With people he knows, Bosco is very sweet and loving. He is well trained, knows and obeys commands "sit", "down", "roll over, "wait", and "not time"(when asking to be fed). Bosco walks very well on a leash with a gentle leader head collar and loves his daily walk. He is very smart and learns quickly. He has recently learned to swim, and loves playing in the water, although he's still not brave enough to go far from shore. Bosco came to NEARR from a local shelter where he had been returned due to growl/lunge behavior which is a reaction to his fear of stangers. Bosco has been in foster care for several months, and his foster mom, with the advice of several trainers, has been working with him to manage this behavior. Bosco has shown great improvement. Bosco gets along fine with his canine foster brother, but would probably rather be an only dog as he prefers to interact with his people. Bosco will need an experienced dog owner with leadership skills who is willing to put in the time and energy to manage Bosco's reactive behavior. But Bosco is well worth the effort. NEARR is committed to finding the right home for this special boy, and is willing to pay for Bosco and his new owner to attend an approved special training class. Remember that new dogs are announced to all approved adopters, and that our application process can take several weeks. If you want to be ready to adopt the perfect dog as soon as they appear in our program, it's a good idea to apply now. Voicemail: (617)-824-4278 nearr@nearr.com |
