Vegas- 2 Month Update

By: michelle @ 9:47 pm

I just wanted to send the October update for Vegas. He is doing great. He is totally settled in to our home and his new routine. He graduated from beginner obedience and was the teacher’s pet and a star pupil. We went on vacation the first week in October to Nantucket. Vegas wasn’t thrilled with the beach because I think the sand and salt water irritated his feet. He did love going for walks on the quiet (paved) beach roads and also loved napping on all the comfy beach house furniture.

Vegas is still itchy sometimes, but his health is stable. We are working on different solutions to his allergies, but he has not had any serious issues.

Vegas and Tima continue to get along well…playing tug, keep away and rough housing in between naps. They enjoy each other’s company and we enjoy their company. Life is good!

I have attached a couple of pictures from Vegas’s vacation…

Fenway (fka Hartley) Update

By: michelle @ 9:46 pm

Hello NEARR.

The last time you guys heard from Fenway (formerly HARTLEY) and I was around the time of the NEARR Picnic. At that time Fenway was going going to have TPLO surgery and couldn’t attend the picnic. Well I’m
happy to report that he came through it with flying collors (not to mention flying lab’s). You would never know that he had such an invasive procedure. I’ll Send new pictures of him under separate cover. The subject line will be “Wonder Mutt”.

I Hope all is well, and if you have another Hartley that needs adopting, Fenway’s been making noise that he wants a brother.

Vegas - 1 Month Update

By: michelle @ 9:43 pm

Things are going great. Vegas and I started with our obedience classes today and he did great! People in the class commented how lucky we were to get such a well behaved and handsome boy. The instructor was really surprised he had only been with us for a month. She thought we have a really solid relationship already and was pleased with how tuned in he was to me. We are taking a 7 week beginner obedience class. I want to continue on with classes with him and get his good canine citizenship. I think he would make a super therapy dog and that is something I have wanted to do for a long time so I am excited to work with him on it.

He is very bonded to me and follows me everywhere…and Tima (our other dog) follows him everywhere. They continue to bond and their relationship continues to strengthen. She loves him and he likes to play with her and has taught her his favorite games. I have attached a few pictures of them.

We are all going on vacation next week. We rented a dog friendly house on the beach on Nantucket. Needless to say, I think Vegas and Tima are going to have a ball! From what the owners of the house told us, there are a couple of labs that live next door too…

Polly Sue - Almost 4-Months Update

By: michelle @ 9:25 pm

Polly played with Brown Jake for 3 hours yesterday afternoon and was exhausted.

She goes to obedience class tonight; instructor labeled her as dominant a couple of sessions ago. What have I learned at class so far? Basically what to do at home. Polly has learned “all the way down”; she sits and waits for okay to cross bike path; comes most of the time at home; is still easily distracted.

She has play dates with Boomer on Wed., Moses on Fri., Black Jake on weekends, and Brown Jake whenever his owner is working on my house. WE were in CT last week where there was dog park in town. Took her there twice a day where she played vigorously for 45 minutes to an hour and was very happy thereafter just lying around. A lot of exercise is key to her behaving.

We are adjusting her amount of food to amount of exercise and colder weather. A dog park for in our town is in planning stages; would be wonderful to have one as I don’t feel safe in letting her run in off leash area.

Season’s Greetings From Charlie!

By: michelle @ 9:22 pm

Hi!

Charlie, and his family wish everyone at NEARR a wonderful Holiday season!

Charlie is doing well. We just love him to pieces. He goes for a mile walk on leash on trails in the woods, almost every day. He’s as happy as can be and gets as dirty as he possibly can. He spends Mondays through Wednesdays shadowing me in the house. My best buddy. When my husband gets home from Philly on Wednesday nights, Charlie forgets about me! We have Charlie’s fence completed. We put up deer fence around almost an acre of the back yard and then just had professionals install some wrought iron fencing for close to the house. Still no ear problems since he switched to food with no corn.

We hope that all of you and your and doing well!
