Vega’s Birthday

By: liz @ 4:29 pm

Vegas3

Vegas had a great birthday and a great Easter!

For his 7th Birthday he got a real duck feast for dinner and we sang to him over his dessert of carrots and venison treats! He also got nyla bones and T gave him a stuffed Bear which she then proceeded to steal. She does share it with him though and they love to play tug with it…

Vegas had a great Easter too. We were dog-sitting for our friend’s black lab, Babe. Babe LOVED Vegas and tried to give him kisses all weekend. He thought this was funny (except when he was trying to nap) and was very tolerant of the youngsters antics all weekend. Interestingly, I have found that many small and younger dogs fall in love with Vegas and try to give him kisses. It is very cute to watch! He had a nice easter dinner that included some ham and egg…but no chocolate, of course.

Attached are a couple pictures…Thank for keeping everyone updated!

Bailey and Chance Update

By: liz @ 4:23 pm

Chance and Bailey2_edited

Sorry it’s taken so long to send an update. Well, we’ve now been spoiling and loving Chance for 6 1/2 years and Bailey for 3 1/2 years. We really couldn’t have asked for better dogs. They have endured three foster dogs and a move into a new house and haven’t complained once. They get along so well, they truly do compliment each other perfectly. For awhile we didn’t think Chancey would like a second dog, but in short time, they became inseparable. They love to go for rides, and long walks. Bailey even loves the vet, even after two surgeries. What more can we say, other than thank you NEARR for matching us with our best friends. I’ve attached two pictures. One is with our most recent foster and the second is on vacation.

Bison’s Update

By: michelle @ 7:29 pm

Bison is a most wonderful dog! He has settled into his new family very nicely. He loves his walks, playing with a tennis ball and his three new brothers. Bison is a very patient guy with three children who love to play with him, and he is happiest when fetching an a ball for anyone. Bison loves to ride in the car and go with us everywhere. His personality emerges each day as he relaxes and learns that his family is always coming back from their errand, work or school.

He is putting on some weight, and his coat is becoming very shiny. We are all so happy with Bison, it feels like we have always had him. Thanks for a wonderful adoption process, we could not have a better match.

Chance 5 Year Update

Hello NEARR folks,

I just wanted to send you a quick update to let you know that I’m a BIG BROTHER! My baby sister was born in December—a bit of an early Christmas present. I am the world’s best big brother. I always have to know where my sister is and who is holding her. If she is upstairs napping in her crib, I stay right there waiting for her to wake up. My parents are impressed to see that my nickname of ‘velcro dog’ is still true as ever…I just have a new subject. My sister is already taking after me, she is a great eater and sleeper! I’m doing my best to train her, we’re currently working on dropping food… I can’t wait to introduce her to my NEARR family. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this snowy start to 2008. Pats and wags, Chance

Mac - Almost 4 Year Update

By: liz @ 4:20 pm

Mac2_Updated Mac1_Updated

It’s been a while, but I wanted to keep you up on Mac. He’s been doing awesome, and I can’t believe it’s going on 4 years. He just turned 11. When I got Mac he weighed in at around 120 lbs. He down to a stunning 107 lbs and is looking sharp. We had an incident w/ him being attacked by a pit-bull that required a couple stitches, but he’s no worse for the wear. He has a ton of friends here in the neighborhood, 2 and 4 legged. He plays great w/ the little dogs, letting them climb and lay all over him. The first year I had Mac he didn’t hump anything, but two weeks of a doggie play group turned him into a hump-a-saurus. His newest victim is a black Lab Max, who suffered a stroke and is in doggie wheelchair. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. It was great to see him playing and romping in all the snow we had in December.

He’s great w/ the kids and sleeps in the hall between their bedrooms for a couple hours when they are with me, then comes up to his bed when he knows they’re asleep. I have to say that he’s a typical Lab when it comes to seeking out food and not wanting to come out of the water. He’s usually very laid back and calm until he gets to go in the river. I can’t believe how aggressive and OCD he gets chasing his toys in the water.

The only down side to all this is knowing that Mac is getting older. He’s slower getting up and making the treks up and down the stairs seem to be harder for him. The vet does say he is in great health though. I’m at work now and don’t have access to photos so we’ll write to you soon and I’ll be sure to send a couple pix along.
