Maisy is doing very well. We’re just finishing a second obedience class at Gemini Dog. She’s doing well in class, but has a little trouble transferring the class to the outside world. She has done very well in controlling herself with the smaller dogs in the class.
She’s happy and healthy. In just the past couple months she has started to retreive a tennis ball, which is a new activity for her. She loves to ride in the car and visit with family and friends.
Her one problem is licking and chewing her front paws. I’ve tried using the toddler socks on them. That works when I’m home, but as soon as I leave she has them off.

Fergus has been with us for 16 months now. It has flown by. He’s doing very well. His arthritis isn’t slowing him down too much. He had a knee injury a few months back, he aggravated some existing arthritis in his knee. Luckily, he just needed to have it iced daily, and be on light duty for 6 weeks. He’s 100% better now, and we’ve continued his “light duty” on land, only allowing him to fully exert himself in the water. It seems to be working great, and luckily for him, we go to the pond & ocean alot!!!
Everywhere I take him, he draws a crowd. People can’t help themselves, they always come over to meet him. I have friends that are not such big fans of big dogs, because they have kids, or whatever their reasons may be, but Fergus has changed them all, and has an open invitation everywhere I go!!!
Fergus will be going remote camping this year for the first time since I’ve had him. I don’t anticipate him doing to well in the canoe. But he finally will wear his life jacket, so that’s a bonus. We’re going to try to get him used to the canoe before we go, but the canoe is near the water, so who knows.
We were a little bit skeptical at first, about adopting a senior dog. The only regret that I have now is that I haven’t known Fergus his whole life. I am very thankful to NEARR, and all it’s volunteers, that make sure great dogs like Fergus find a loving home, and I cherish all the time that I do get to spend with him. Thanks again NEARR.

She is wonderful! We are so happy that we made the decision to adopt. Lily is well behaved and a joy to have in our household. She follows us everywhere and just wants to be by our side. In fact, J. is so totally in love with Lily that we are taking her with us to NH to visit his parents next weekend. They invited Lily because he told them how good she was in the house. None of our other dogs were ever invited!

I have been looking around for some recent pictures of Penny, but I don’t think we have anything really recent on hand, so I will snap some pics and forward them to you! Penny is just the sweetest, funniest thing ever - she’s a big, clumsy, lovable oaf, such a charmer and so much fun, she is a blessing in our lives, and she’s really great company for our other dog.

All’s well here with us and Kismet. Kismet is adapting nicely to having a new addition to our house, of the 2-legged variety. The baby is still quite respectful of Kismet, not being a crawler yet, and Kismet is appropriately curious and gentle. Kismet appears to have reached her full size, roughly 70 lbs, and is as healthy as any dog we’ve ever known. She’s become quite a swimmer, and we’ve had to make an effort to keep her out of the water in winter, which she’d be happy to go into regardless of temperature. Now that summer’s here, we’ll be looking for opportunities to let her exercise her water-dog nature more. Besides that, she’s a champion stick chewer — fond of chasing, mainly for the chance to lie down with the stick and chomp it, rather than retrieving it. When not swimming, chewing sticks outside, or playing at the dogpark, she can be found sprawled on any bare patch of floor, resting up for the next round. She continues to be a pleasure to have as part of our household. Some

I had the update on my calendar but with all the fun we’re having with maxwell it slipped my mind. he is really a great dog!!! we believe that we really lucked out getting to be his adoptive parents. his visits to the vet for ear problem have been successful. he did have to go on some meds and ear wash. the vet is satisfied with the results and suggested that we keep him informed of any changes.
we also took max for a refresher lesson on training. the trainor was really impressed with his obedience for both hand and verbal commands. she also suggested we us a gentle leader while walking him . after she put it on max she could tell that he had been trained on one before. he received a diploma.
max is a fun dog who loves lots of attention;wants to meet all the other dogs in the neighborhood. he walks with me in the early morning (5:30) and again in the afternoon with my wife M.J. because of his ear infection we haven’t taken him to the beach yet. plans are to introduce him to the atlantic next weekend. according to the info we have he has never been in the water. can you believe it?

I have moved to a three bedroom house attached to another house on an acre lot. There is a big fenced in area so he can be outside when I cut the grass. Usually he is on a 30 feet rope so he can feel free outside. When I’m outside, he will always stay near me and the neighbors all adore him. I have attached two of the latest pictures of him at his new home. I hope everything is good with you. Thank you again for the best freind I could have hoped for.

Hi All -
Heartbreaking to see how many dogs have been given up by owners who can no longer keep them. So sad for them and the dogs.
But heartwarming to tell you how wonderful Polly is, especially now that she can run off leash with 100% recall. She gets so much exercise that she has no energy to be “bad.” She’s patient and calm in house, waits easily for walks/food, is obedient - still smart, loving, beautiful, friendly.
Neighbor’s Lab comes over for 30-45 minutes of play in backyard several mornings a week, and then we go for a walk in woods or at beach (in fall, winter, early spring) with her best buddy Boomer, another black Lab, or with 2 Viszlas, or sometimes all 4 dogs together. Polly is still CBIC (chief b*!%$ in charge). If Boomer pays too much attention to female Viszlas, she chastises him vigorously until he submits (doesn’t take long now). It’s wonderful to see how much joy she gets from running at full tilt and exploring, and you should see her thigh muscles now.
Have her on Turducken now (thanks, Polly’s foster mom) and have had no further diarrhea problems. Had problem with her falling sound asleep after hard run and urine leaking without her knowing it. When she was awake, no problem. Didn’t even want to go out to pee. Had her urine tested a few times, and no infection/problem found. Finally decided to take her for walk on leash around block, that was where she wanted to pee, and then everything was fine, no more leaking. So do that routinely after her run if she’s had a lot to drink.

Hello! Biskit is handling his pain medication well and still has a lot pep in his step. We are enjoying him even more now than ever. He still brings us so much joy and unconditional love. The best part of my day is to come home after a day at work to that wagging tail and smiling face!! What a feeling that is. I didnt really have any idea how wonderful that was!! We recently adopted Lilly a 6yr old white lab from another rescue and the two are getting along wonderfully. Lilly even encourages Biskit to chase in the backyard. When we walk, since Biskit is much slower than Lilly she always comes back and checks on her older brother and kisses him in the face. Its the absolute sweetest thing to see the two of them play together like they have been with each other all their lives! Thank you NEARR for bringing this gentle, loving old gentleman into our hearts!!!
