Onyx - 2 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 7:37 pm

I’m pleased to say Onyx and Sullie are doing great together! We have signed ourselves and Onyx up for Obedience Training that starts Wednesday through the MSPCA.

Onyx loves visiting John’s parents dog, Lily (see attached picture). They all get along great.

Taylor - 1 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 4:45 pm

Our boy Taylor is doing great. He is very sweet and a total love. We are participating in a Dog Training class, semi-private lessons, once a week. We are proud to report, he is a quick learner. He was a real puller on his leashed walks but now he is fine and is a perfect leash walker. We take him everywhere - hiking, to Wesley’s (near daily) baseball and soccer games where he is a huge hit with kids. Labs are great with kids, but Tyler is off the chart awesome with kids. He really enjoys being swarmed by kids and sits and relaxes while they pet him. And Wesley and he are steadfast cuddle bugs.

We are still crate training when he is alone at home. And we are at the point where we give him short test times when he is alone with the crate open. I am hopeful that he’ll be graduating from the crate during his solo time.

We just love the boy. He has brought a lot to us all.

Mac - 5 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 4:33 pm

Mac turned 13 this past January. He has slowed quite a bit and is having trouble making stairs and slow getting up. He falls frequently and needs a hand getting back up on his feet. He was 120 lbs when I adopted him from NEARR. He is currently at a stunning 75 lbs. I figured with the weight loss, I might add some years to the big guy. The unfortunate thing is that the weight loss has been rather rapid.

He has been running and playing with his new friends Abi and Sabre. His new little brother Alex, a Police K9, keeps him playing. I know the inevitable lies in the new future, but I have to say that he is just the best dog.

It’s nice to check in on the NEARR site and see how all the pups are doing.

Onyx - 1 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 4:31 pm

I’m pleased to report that Onyx is settling in well in his new home. Sullie and Onyx are getting along and respecting each other. We continue to feed them in separate areas so they can’t see each other and that seems to be working.

Sheena - 6 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 4:27 pm

Sheena continues to be a joy to have in our lives… She seems extremely happy and appreciative of the life we all have together; as are we… Sheena is now 3 weeks, (four if you count tomorrow’s session) along in her 8 week training course… She is exceeding expectations and is very responsive to the positive learning experience… We continue to grow as a family and look forward to extending our happy lives together… Again, we thank you for leading us to Sheena and can say confidently she is happy for you leading her to us….

Thanks again and look forward to more updates…

Maxwell K - 1 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 4:14 pm

Hi everyone, It’s Maxwell K (that’s Casey with a K) . Boy can you believe it, it has been one year since my adoption into my forever home. Time flies when you’re having fun. And I sure am having lots. My Mom and Dad really love me as I do them. We do many things together… like early morning walks either at the beach where I take in a beautiful sunrise, play with some new friends or just chase the seagulls. We also walk in the woods where I can inhale that woodsy smell, see an occasional rabbit or deer… you know, just commune with nature. Dad takes me for rides (I spend lots of quality time with him). Most days we go to his studio where I lounge around listening to cool music while trying to figure just what Dad’s paintings are. Oh well, I never could understand abstract art. Mom has a sedan and she also takes me for rides when she goes shopping… I sit in the middle of the back seat just like royalty taking in all of the sites. I am sort of regal.

I had to just take a break… my supper was ready and I don’t miss a meal. No matter what. Breakfast at 7 and dinner at 5. What can I tell you… a dog has to eat when his stomach says so. Along with having lots fun and eating real well my other enjoyment is… SLEEPING!!!! Anywhere. Anytime. And nothing wakes me except my food dish being filled. Dad once asked the Vet why I sleep so much… his answer… because he can.

As you can see, I really am having fun and have settled into my new life nicely. My Mom and Dad shower me with lots of love and attention. And I’m pretty certain that I have done likewise. I have become a sort of a shadow dog… where they are that’s where I want to be.

So my first year has been great thanks to NEARR and my foster Mom for making sure I was placed in this home.
