Boomer - 1 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 6:57 pm

Boomer attended Truro Treasure Weekend pet competition and comes in second for the best kisser and almost the most obedient. He was excellent at “stay” but weaker at “come” due to the dog waiting next to me being more interesting. It was a fun day.

We finally have the hot spot resolved and are still enjoying walks through the wooded paths of Truro looking for deer tracks, cranberries, mushrooms and many interesting things. We had a nice trip to the kennel for a bath and nail trim and Boomer came home looking like a giant fuzzy orange caterpillar and smelled like an apple.

He still smiles constantly and snuggles close to any new guest making them feel welcome and special. He enjoys sleeping on his new bed cushion next to the fireplace or weather permitting suns himself on the deck always close to brother Buddy our 5 yr old golden from central NY Golden Retriever Rescue. We couldn’t ask for a better addition to our family. More to come.

Cole - 2 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 6:06 pm

Cole had another exciting week, experiencing an “at-home” visit from the dog doctor as well as his first day of obedience school. The visit went well and Cole is a very healthy dog. His heart-worm tests came back negative, he has no parasites, and other than a little weight problem he is in great physical shape. In reviewing his records the vet discovered something we had over looked, Cole’s birthday. He was born on January 20th, 2004, making him a bit younger than we thought. We will be monitoring Cole’s weight and moving him to a lower calorie diet, and with all the running and outside time we’re having we expect the extra pounds to come off in no time.

Cole also had his first class of obedience school on Friday. As you know Cole is not so fond of other dogs so we anticipated a bit of a challenge. However, Cole reacted fairly well while in close proximity to a Corgi puppy. I’m not sure he learned much in the class with the confusion of orientation, registering for classes etc., but it was all new and a very exciting way to spend an evening. We did pick up some tips and we’ll be practicing these during the week in preparation for our next class.

We also went to the beach, played fetch, and for numerous walks as well this week. Cole continues to meet more people (who he really enjoys), and more dogs in the area. We hope he will get used to the presence of dogs as he gets a chance to be around them more and more.

I’m attaching a picture of Cole sitting on our sofa with one of his favorite chew/fetch toys. As you can see he’s a bit of a goof, but a great companion to have around.

Cole - 1 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 6:02 pm

Cole has really settled in and adopted us as his parents. He is very affectionate and from the first night with us he was sleeping in our bedroom and following us around the house. By midweek, he was showering us with slobbery affection. Cole has taken up jogging this week. He loves walking and jogging and does a very good job of walking on a leash. He is losing some weight even though he’s eating as much as his foster family told me he ate at their house. Cole is a wonderful addition to our household and we’re really happy to have him here.

Boomer - 2 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 9:36 am

Boomer is winning all the hearts of his family, friends and neighbors on the Cape. He got to spend some fun time with his brothers Buddy who looks like his twin, Skipper who looks like a ragamuffin, his new Mom and Dad and his vet Dr. Joan. He even had a visit from his loving foster family. We are continuing to work on his hot spot and he is getting lots of exercise along the trails without showing any signs of joint pain. At first Boomer just hung out close to Mom and Dad, but in no time he was helping himself to toys and exploring the new areas of the house. He is so well behaved and smiles all the time, which makes us all smile. We are so grateful to NEARR and all of the kind and caring folks who made Boomer’s transition a safe and happy one.
