Sam - 2.5 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 5:38 pm

Here is a photo of Sam and his sister hoping to catch a hot dog! At his second cookout of the spring. We love him very much. I hope more people will think to adopt a senior dog- he is happy, house trained, doesn’t need hours of exercise like a puppy and just is content to go on nice slow walks and snuggle on the couch!! There is lots to love about an old dog and we are so happy he joined our family!

Sam - 1.5 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 5:36 pm

Sam has been with us for about two months now and we are more in love with him than ever. He is doing really well. At first he was nervous at the dog park but he loves it now. He looks so happy. He gets along great with his dog sister Genevieve. They sleep together every night.

He has a lot of funny habits. For example, every night at 8:30 he starts to whine and cry and it is because he wants to go to sleep. He wants to be brought to the bedroom and tucked in- no lights and no TV. So we tuck him in to his bed in the bedroom and he sleeps like a baby til 7 am.

He also loves stuffed toys and happily destroys them leaving stuffing everywhere. He has no bad habits though and has been such a delight to have. He is mellow, happy, content to cuddle while we read or watch TV or nap in the kitchen while we cook. He is happy to go on his walks and play in the park.

We are so happy to have him.

Riley - 2 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 5:35 pm

Riley’s doing awesome! He is super lovable and friendly to our neighbors as well! There is a meadow near our house which he loves – here’s a photo for you.

So we’re doing great - no issues to report. I’ll keep you posted and I’ll give Riley a hug for you!

Lucy - 4 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 5:30 pm

Hi All:
Lucy here. Wow it has been 4 months since I came to my new home. I love it here! I love my fenced in back yard. I love my food. I love my brother Harley and I love to play with my dog cousins, Misty, Bear, and Max. A couple of weeks ago, Harley and I went on vacation in NH . We had a blast walking trails into waterfalls, chasing balls at a beach parking lot and swimming in the lake. We stayed at a dog friendly motel.

Oh by the way, Harley had to teach me to swim. My first attempt in the ocean surprised my mom and dad, that I could not swim. Not to worry, however, Harley is a very good teacher. The picture you see is us swimming in Echo Lake. Boy what fun. My dad thought all Labs could swim, but my trainer said some need to learn.

The other picture you see is of Harley and me in the car on vacation. I hope we can go again in the fall. Well, I’d like to talk more but I have a new tug toy calling my name.
Until next time:
Ruff for now:

Duke Skywalker - 7 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 5:25 pm

Duke Skywalker, NEARR dog Deuce, is celebrating his SEVENTH anniversary at his Forever Home in NH. Duke jumped out of his Foster Dad’s SUV seven years ago on Memorial Day when he was nine months old. He was a rocket ship from Day One. He still is but the jets don’t fire up quite as often as they used to. Older and wiser now, he has figured out that faster isn’t always smarter and also requires more energy. He’s had TPLO surgery on both knees but that has only made him stronger.

Duker and the boss man continue to walk almost every day summer and winter and Duke enjoys being off leash to explore, swim in the brook or lake and chase squirrels and chipmunks through the woods. He’s a cat hater but tolerates the local live in, even when the cat takes up residence on Duke’s bunk. Duker has always been a people person, especially little people. He just loves kids and enjoy’s Boss and Mom’s three and a half year old granddaughter who refers to him as Mr Dukie. She brings her Beagle for him to play with.

Duke continues to enjoy kayaking, riding on the pontoon boat and watching for loons and he’s just recently taken possession of a yard sale paddle boat. He’s still trying to figure out the peddle power but should master it soon. Duke enjoys great health, although he has typical Lab issues, and hopes to be around to watch the granddaughter grow up and the cat to use up all of it’s nine lives.

Duker thanks his Foster Dad, his other foster families, all the great folks at NEARR who volunteer and work so hard to give dogs such as him great Forever Homes and also his very first family who had to give him up even though they loved him very much.

Riley - 1 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 5:24 pm

Just a brief note to let you know that Riley is doing great in his new home! He’s got a fantastic personality and has acclimated well into his new environment. I took him to the vet for a checkup today and he got a clean bill of health. The vet told me that we “got a real winner in Riley”, and she certainly is right! I’ve attached a picture of him today as well. Thanks!
