Bubba - 2 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 3:05 pm

So sorry I am a couple days late. We are all good. Bubs is settling in a bit more. We are on a good schedule that works for all of us. He enjoys walks and hanging outside with me while the girls bike up and down the street. We met the vet this week and all went well. He warmed up as soon as the treats started flowing.

We are working on his barking at cars and people at the door, especially when it is one of us; being invited onto our bed instead of assuming it is his bed too (this one is going to take some time); and not putting this paws on the counter.

He is a sweet boy and we are really enjoying him in the house. We are getting our fence back in order so he can roam a little more freely in the backyard.

Lucy - 8 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 2:46 pm

Hi All:
Lucy here! I have just come back from my vacation to New Hampshire . Harley and I had lots of fun swimming in Echo Lake and chasing the ball in the parking lot. We took lots of hikes into waterfalls and found lots of interesting smells along the way. I now am an experienced swimmer thanks to my teacher and brother Harley. This time of year at home on Cape Cod there is lots to do. Harley and I go to the beach, take long walks on the bike trail and love chasing the ball in our neighborhood. I am working on heeling. I am good at home, but on vacation I am slightly over excited by the new situations. I improved as the week went on. All in all it has been a great eight months. I love Cape Cod .

Vegas - 4 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 2:37 pm

Just a quick update for Vegas’ former family and friends at NEARR on the 4th anniversary of his adoption. We can’t believe it’s been four years already…for our own marriage and for the adoption of Vegas. Time flies!

Vegas had a great summer. We vacationed in July (pictures attached) and we all had a great time. We rented a cottage with it’s own private sandy beach. We had a lot of fun walks on the beach and the sandy lane. Vegas also enjoyed napping on the deck and the porch and eating some leftover lobster! Vegas has also been doing a lot of hiking and swimming this summer and his allergies have barely bothered him this summer. He is doing really well health-wise.

He has brought so much happiness and joy to our family these past four years. We all love him dearly.

Bubba - 1 Week Update

By: volunteer @ 2:34 pm

As I write, Bubba is laying at my feet. He is a sweet boy and a pleasure. The first week we spent figuring out each other’s habits. I learned that taking Bubba for a walk at 8pm rather than 3pm makes for a calmer night and he is learning not to mouth my arm when he gets excited. He LOVES a good stuffed animal and has a funny fascination with towels. He has been sleeping in our room, but enjoys storytime with the girls on their bed. When introduced to new people, my daughter says, “this is our new dog, Bubba. He is half Labrador and half couch potato.” I smile every time she says it.

He has met all the dogs and neighbors on our street. Everyone loves him and his demeanor. He is great with kids and is getting better at playing with dogs. He almost played with our next door neighbors’ high energy golden today…almost. He and I played soccer tonight…for some reason he is not as keen on the tennis ball but a deflated soccer ball is his new favorite toy.

It is nice to have another dog in our house. We worked on sit stays today and will be signing up for classes for the whole family next week. Bubs loves to be loved and we are really enjoying him. Thanks for all you did for him. I think he knows that he is in his forever home. It feels like he has been here longer than just one week.

Tracker - 8 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 2:32 pm

All is well. We have had our summer time skin problems, but under control. My wife and I enjoy him as much as he does us. He has his own island in the harbor and we relax there as he swims and eats rotten fish! I dig clams and he buries them back. He loves apples and we went the orchard Sunday. He takes them out of my bag rather than off the ground. Lots of fun!! Thank you all for getting us together.

Cole - 1 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 10:06 am

Cole has had a wonderful summer. Evan was home a lot this summer and the two of them took long walks around the neighborhood and even went for a day-hike. Having a lot of time with Evan home was a great opportunity for Cole to work on some positive behaviors. He is doing very well with greeting guests appropriately, being calm when delivery trucks go by and not barking at dogs that walk by the house.

One weekend, we went out of town and Cole had a dog-sitter. They got along great and her no-nonsense approach with his dog reactiveness was really helpful. Cole is now at the point where he can sit calmly while another dog walks by within about 4 feet, and he can walk past a dog that is barking at him and stay focused. We are very proud. He’s also become more trusting of us. He lets us touch his legs and feet and rolls almost completely onto his back to have his tummy rubbed.

He did have a less great moment last week, when he climbed on the dining table and helped himself to some cake. So, we’re still learning.

Evan and I are so thrilled that we have Cole in our life. He’s been a real gift to us and we think he’s happy with us, too.

Logan - 3 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 10:06 am

I am happy to say that I am doing very well. I have attached a couple pictures of me enjoying my paper and morning coffee. :-) I have been spending a lot of time on Cape Cod. The Cape does not allow dogs on the beach until after Labor day, so as of today I am able to run on the beach and go for a much deserved swim.

I hope that all is well with you and wish you many future successful adoptions.

Thank You,
Logan

Lily - 1 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 10:04 am

Well Lily has been with us for about a month now and we all continue to explore the complexities of living together.

Lily is a “hunter’ and will chase anything within her domain from a bumblebee to a woodchuck. The bee flies too high and the woodchuck managed to get out through the fence before Lily could have it for supper.

On the training front she continues to improve. Lily has attended several hours of “daycare” and is getting comfortable enough that she might be able to enter the general population. She will be entering obedience training in a few weeks mainly for socialization where we hope she will graduate with honors. (Summa cum Socialist ??)

In the house, Lily is learning to share but those bones on the floor should really all belong to her. She takes her medicine wrapped in peanut butter or a piece of watermelon. Oh!! That is sooooo gooood!!!!

This morning Lily had a sleep-in until 7AM. That’s 1 1/2 hours more than usual. WOW !! All that extra sleep sure feels good!

Sailor (aka Ceasar) - 9 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 10:02 am

Hi all! It’s me Sailor. I just celebrated my tenth birthday and though I am slowing down a bit I still enjoy my weekend boating trips. My family and I just moved to a new home and it’s taking me a little bit to get used to but we’re together so that’s what counts. And, as you can see my Mom remembered my comfy bed and best buddy.

Boomer - 1 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 10:00 am

Boomer is a wonderful dog and gets lots of love, exercise. He’s been to Washington DC but Bo (Obama) was out of town!! He seems to be very comfortable with us. He goes everywhere with dad in the car. No medical problems including evidence of arthritis. He loves to eat, but is polite about it. Believe it or not he’s the boss of his Golden brother Buddy. We hope he gets to spend many good years with us. His Vet loves him but not as much as we all do.

Boomer walks 2 miles when weather is mild or swims and sits in the sprinkler on the front lawn watching me weed and intimidating the chipmunks. He travels everywhere when not too hot. No hot spots, no ear infections, no limping, no fatigue, no thyroid problems. Lost a couple of lbs and making friends everywhere he goes. He wrestles with his 6 yr old Golden brother and plays tug its so cute. He loves to eat. On Nutro Senior and loves sweet potato chips. It is obvious compared to the behavior of my past adoptees that he has been well loved and cared for by his previous parents
