Lucy: 1 Year Update

By: volunteer @ 8:23 pm

Hi All,

Lucy here for my 1 year anniversary. What a great year it has been. I love my new home and my mommy and daddy love me. My brother Harley and I have so much fun together. We love to take walks and play ball. We live right behind the Cape Cod Rail Trail and that is a great place to walk, especially in the winter when the beach is too cold. When I first came to my new home, I couldn’t swim and I couldn’t catch. Now I am a good swimmer (Harley taught me) and I can catch a ball even on the run. I love to run. When I have a chance to get loose, I do something that my former foster mother Cyndi calls the Lucy hop. I gallop.

Our family has been on vacations to NH and we love to hike, play ball and swim. Christmas was good to us Santa Dog brought us new balls. As a pastime Harley and I love to play in the fenced in back yard and visit with our cousins Max (a chocolate lab) Bear (a golden retriever) and Misty, Snickers and Rex (all lab mixes). Harley and I also love to bark at the squirrels that like to eat the bird seed that mommy puts out. I love my forever home. Thanks to all of you who have cared for me in the past. I am really happy. PS: have you ever heard of a 75lb lap dog. You can see for yourself in the picture above.

Pawfully yours,
Lucy

Dexter 2 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 8:47 pm

Dexter is such a happy dog! We really enjoy having him with us. He makes us laugh a lot with his ways, such as eating from his bowl while sitting! We have an “inside ball” that we toss or roll down the hallway, which he would do all day long. And, of course, he loves to play with his “outside ball”; the snow has not stopped that! While we are at work, he gets to play with his friends. He has learned to play soccer and frisbee with them! But when he is tired in the evening, he just lies down in his bed and he is gone for the night.

Dexter did some traveling this past month. We spent a few days at my parents for New Year’s. He traveled very nicely for the 3 hour drive and adjusted well to a different house with lots of new people around. My parents live near a park where dogs can go off leash; he enjoyed going for walks there. The best part of the park, however, was chasing his brothers down the hill while they were sledding…such fun! Back here at home, we have discovered that Dexter likes to help shovel. Well, actually, his way of helping is trying to catch the snow coming off of the shovel…sometimes with leaps of 3 feet up in the air (or at least it seems like he leaps 3 feet in the air). Needless to say, shoveling goes much faster while being entertained by Dexter. He is such a nice addition to our family!

Here are three pictures…one with Dexter demonstrating how to eat while sitting, one with him and his inside ball, and one of just him.

Bubba - 4 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 10:08 pm

What a change our dog has gone through in the past 4 months. He did amazing at training as did our 6 year olds. He and another dog were the only ones recommended to go on to the intermediate level. Throughout the 8 weeks, we saw him go from a timid/cautious dog to being more comfortable around humans and dogs. He would not let the trainer pet him at first and by the end they were best buds. When I say go find so and so, he now walks towards the person with a waggy tail and head down ready for some love.

Bubs has been great with all the kids rolling in and out of our house. He is gentle and really does not bother with them. He still likes to find food on the counter and bark randomly at noise but both habits are getting much better. His favorite perches are the couch and our bed. He is a great blanket in the cold and is awesome at snuggles. He is really playful and just a really nice addition to the family.

We went on our first long trip to Maryland and Pennsylvania for the holidays. He adapted to each new environment pretty quickly once he realized we were all staying. We still take a long walk in the morning with our golden friend and he has become really good at being off leash running at the park.

He just finished a round of antibiotics for Lyme but other than that he is in good health. We went to the vet in December and got his shots. We are are all up to date and ready to romp in the snow, if it ever falls.

Thanks again NEARR people. This was a great match.

Frannie - 2 Month Update

By: volunteer @ 10:26 pm

Fantastic Frannie here! It has been a fabulous 2 months. My mom and dad can’t believe that it’s only been 2 months. It feels like I have been here forever.

Over the holidays, I went to my aunt’s house. My brother Winston and I had all sorts of interesting adventures. Before I went to my aunt’s house, my mom took me to the groomer. I got my nails cut, had a nice bath, and came out smelling like a rose. My aunt and uncle have a pool with a pool cover. The very 1st day I was there I actually touched it with my paw. Of course, they have one of those pool covers that even a little child could walk on. As soon as my paw touched the water, I decided I would leave that area alone.

On Christmas eve, Winston made a big mess of my aunties calzone. He unwrapped it and ate one end. I promptly told my aunt and uncle and saved the day. Although I had fun at my aunts house, I was very excited to see mom and dad.

Now the holidays are over and I have a lot of work to do. For a dog, I have a lot of big jobs in my house. My number 1 job is keeping my mom safe from the scary things in the basement. I often go down with her to change out the laundry. I go down the stairs 1st and check things out. Once I know that everything is safe, I look back at mom she can come down the stairs. My other big job is keeping my brother Winston out of trouble. There have been a few times where I have helped him with some of his more industrious ideas. If it means I will get some food, then I am in. Otherwise I’m telling mom and dad!

I hope everyone at NEARR had a wonderful holiday season! Until next month.
